A town built from scratch
Cambourne's masterplan was approved in 1996 for up to 3,300 homes, building started in 1998 and the first residents moved in during 1999. It was laid out as three linked villages, Lower, Great and Upper Cambourne, each around its own green. Cambourne West, approved in 2017 with 2,350 more homes, has been under construction since 2020.
Kitchens ready for a change
Because the town has only existed since 1999, many Cambourne kitchens are still the ones fitted when the houses were built, some of them more than twenty-five years ago. The units are often still sound, while the laminate worktops are chipped, scorched or lifting at the joins. Replacing just the worktops with quartz or granite is the most common job we are asked about here.
Upgrading a new build
If you are buying in Cambourne West, you may have a builder-specification worktop that you would rather change. Stone can go onto most new-build kitchens as soon as the units are fitted. Check your developer's guidance on alterations during any warranty period.
What we need
A sketch of the kitchen, the length of each run, photos and your postcode. If you know your house type or the original kitchen layout, mention it. Send it all through the quote form.
Questions from Cambourne
Our kitchen is the original one. Will stone fit on it?
Most will. Sound, level cabinets with no leak damage carry stone without trouble.
Can a brand-new home have its worktops upgraded?
Yes, once the units are in place. Check your developer's guidance on alterations first.
