Choose your stone

Each one looks, wears and cleans differently. Open a material for the honest pros and cons, or read the side-by-side comparison.

  • Engineered

    Quartz worktops

Even colour, no sealing, huge choice of plain and veined designs. Keep hot pans off it.

  • Natural stone

    Granite worktops

Tough, heat-tolerant and one of a kind. Some granites need an occasional seal.

  • Fired ceramic

    Porcelain worktops

Slim, heat-proof and unbothered by sunlight. Edges are planned with care.

  • Natural stone

    Marble worktops

The classic veined look. Soft, and etched by acids, so it ages with the kitchen.

  • Natural stone

    Quartzite worktops

Marble-like veining in a far harder rock. Usually sealed.

How most worktop jobs start

A new kitchen going in

Your fitter installs the units, we template them, then cut and fit stone to match exactly.

How templating works

New worktops, same units

Out with the laminate or timber, in with stone, cut fresh around the sink and hob.

Replacement worktops

An island to build around

Stools tucked under an overhang, a waterfall end, perhaps a hob or sink in the middle: all worked out before the stone is cut.

Island worktops

Also: matching splashbacks and upstands, and vanity tops, sills and offcut pieces.

What sets the price

Equal-sized kitchens can come in at quite different prices. These five things make the difference, and a good quote lists every one of them.

Worktops in Cambridge homes

Local quirks worth knowing before you choose and book.

Hard water

Cambridge Water's 2025/26 report gives a hardness of about 335 mg/l as calcium carbonate for the north of the city. Quartz, porcelain and sealed granite cope easily; marble wants mild, acid-free cleaning. Our care guide has the routine.

Old walls, new kitchens

The city has 18 conservation areas, from Mill Road and De Freville to Newnham Croft and Storey's Way, and streets of Victorian terraces such as Romsey Town, built after the railway arrived in 1845. Few of their walls are true, so we always template first. Swapping worktops in a house that is not listed rarely needs any permission.

Parking on fitting day

Stone comes by van and goes in by hand, so the van has to park close to your front door. Much of Cambridge has residents' parking zones, where Cambridgeshire County Council issues tradesperson permits against a job sheet. Tell us about your street when you enquire.

Where we fit

The city plus its villages and market towns, as far as Ely, St Ives, Newmarket, Saffron Walden, Royston and Cambourne. Towns with a link have their own page with local notes.

Questions about worktops in Cambridge

How do I get a price?

Use the quote form to send a simple plan with approximate lengths, your postcode, the stone you are drawn to and your sink and hob choices. We will get in touch, go over it with you and price it.

Do you measure the kitchen?

Yes. The figures you send are only for pricing. Once you say yes and the units are installed, we take precise measurements on site and the stone is cut from those.

Will stone go on my current units?

Usually. They should be solid, level and securely fixed. See replacement worktops for what to check.

Which stone copes best with Cambridge water?

Quartz, porcelain and sealed granite handle hard water easily. Marble needs most care, since the acid in most descalers eats into its surface.

Do you cover my postcode?

We work across CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4, CB5, CB6, CB7, CB8, CB10, CB11, CB21, CB22, CB23, CB24, CB25, PE27, SG8. Add your postcode to your enquiry and we will confirm.
