Before templating
- Base cabinets installed where they will stay, levelled and secured.
- Sink, tap and hob chosen, ideally on site with their cut-out templates.
- Appliances that sit under the worktop confirmed, especially integrated dishwashers and washing machines.
- Sockets and switches already where they will end up, if a splashback goes round them.
- Anyone who needs to agree decisions available for the visit.
On the day
We measure every run, corner, wall and opening, either with a physical template or with a digital measuring tool, depending on the job. We confirm with you where joins will fall, the sink and hob positions, the overhang at the front and at any breakfast bar, and the edge profile. Whatever is agreed then is what gets cut, so ask anything you are unsure about.
Between templating and fitting
In the workshop, every opening and edge is cut to match the template. Leave the units exactly as they were measured. Moving a unit, changing the sink or adding a socket after templating can mean a remeasure.
Preparing for fitting day
Clear the worktops and the floor in front of the units, and clear a path from the door to the kitchen. In much of Cambridge, the van needs to stop close to the house to unload heavy pieces. If your street is in a residents' parking scheme, check parking in advance; Cambridgeshire County Council issues tradesperson permits against a job sheet, and approval can take a few working days.
Fitting and afterwards
The worktops are lifted in, levelled and fixed, joins are bonded and polished flush, and the sink is set in place. Then the plumber hooks up the sink, and a Gas Safe registered engineer reconnects any gas hob. Before we leave, we check every edge with you and explain how to look after your stone.
Questions we are asked
Does someone have to be in?
Yes, for templating, because that is when the decisions are made. For the fit, we just need someone to open up and to look over the finished job with us.
Can we template before the units are fitted?
No. The stone has to match the units as they are actually installed.
Who arranges parking?
Tell us about your street when you enquire. Where a permit is needed, we agree with you who applies for it.
